Marcus Ratka

Marcus Ratka (born October 10, 1970 in Vienna ) is an Austrian musician ( guitarist ), composer , musicologist and founding rector of JAM MUSIC LAB - Private University for Jazz and Popular Music Vienna .

Live and act

Ratka studied jazz guitar as well as jazz theory and arrangement at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna (today MUK ). He also graduated from the University of Vienna with a degree in musicology. He is currently working on a PhD with the title Composition in Jazz at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.

At the beginning of the 90s he began his freelance work as a musician, arranger and composer, which led to musical / artistic collaboration with Joe Zawinul , Sylvester Levay , Harry Kupfer , Jérôme Savary , Werner Herzog , Hansi Lang , Thomas Gansch , Mario Gonzi , Georg Breinschmid , Bumi Fian , Herwig Gradischnig , Erika Pluhar , the Theater an der Wien , as well as various radio stations such as ORF , ARD and RTL .

In 2001 he founded the two ensembles Chameleon Changes and Zur Eisernen Zeit - Natural Born Viennese .

Ratka was a lecturer at the Gustav Mahler Conservatory in Vienna from 1998 to 2008 , and then until 2011 at the jazz department of the Liszt School of Music in Weimar .

In 2011, together with Joe Valentin and Andy Bartosh , Marcus Ratka founded the JAM MUSIC LAB - Conservatory for Jazz and Popular Music Vienna (since 2017 JAM MUSIC LAB - Private University for Jazz and Popular Music Vienna ), of which, in addition to his role as managing director, he also founded works as a lecturer for guitar and various theoretical subjects.
