criticism

  • In “RotFuchs” issue no. 106 from November 2006 on page 27, Bruni Steiniger expresses the following about the book “Late Friendship”. It is a presentation of two women as representatives of an almost extinct virtue, because they still write letters to each other. Met at the Irmtraud Morgner Round Table and the friendship that deepened in an exchange of letters helped both to a lively exchange of ideas on issues of emancipation in East and West as well as the important role of women in society. The letters reflect the personal point of view of two women who - each in their own way - went their own way: Ursula Siemens as a literary scholar from the Ruhr area, whose mother was already involved in the illegal KPD, Margitta Zellmer as a journalist for which the GDR is their home, socialism their "deeply internalized worldview and way of life".
  • Dubçek, ibid., In volume 3 on pages 38 and 39 under “Wir Zellmern!” Writes in “Exkaputtbaren”: “In the future, the supposedly should also appear under the synonym“ S. Vetisch ”MZ will no longer come into conflict with herself when she will finally be the only district newspaper journalist within a radius of 80 km. The woman is, so her output suggests, a jack-of-all-trades and at home on every floor in the world. "
  • Reinhardt O. Cornelius-Hahn writes about “Late Friendship”: “It is a peculiar book that the two women offer us. I was prepared for boredom. After 'flying over' I read myself here and there. Strange, this different view of things, but it really is so, when East and West try to talk to each other and to reveal themselves, it is a relief. The information exchanged is interesting, often valuable and insightful. Here two mature people exchange their thoughts on a high level. Everyday life is also there and exciting. The correspondence is intimate, but not hurtful, it is open but not rough. Without exaggeration, it is a strange, perhaps a great book in the best sense of the word. It is definitely worth reading.
