Maria Otgard Lobe (born July 18, 1912 in Breslau ; † March 24, 2001 in Strausberg ) was a German resistance fighter against National Socialism and a high-ranking member of the National People's Army .

Life

Maria Lobe grew up in Breslau, where she graduated from high school in February 1932 . Then she studied medicine. In 1934 she joined the KPD , which was declared illegal on the basis of the Reichstag Fire Ordinance . She was encouraged to take this step by the boycott of the Jews , which she was opposed to. She participated in the illegal distribution of leaflets and was arrested on November 26, 1934. She was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment after serving on remand.

She was then allowed to continue her studies and passed her state examination on December 18, 1938 . She then worked as a medical intern at various hospitals and then tried to move to Saarbrücken as a volunteer assistant . Due to her political past, however, the negotiations dragged on for a year and so she did not come to the Saar region until January 1941. She kept in contact with a KPD resistance group in Berlin and established connections with other KPD groups. On April 12, 1943, the Gestapo arrested two Jewish refugees from the Berlin resistance group in their apartment in Saarbrücken . In the subsequent process, she was able to prove her innocence despite a denunciating statement from a work colleague. The subsequent trial was dropped for lack of evidence.

Towards the end of the Second World War she was transferred to Hoyerswerda , where she worked as a senior physician . After the war she moved to Dresden , then to Berlin. In the Soviet zone of occupation , she was the main advisor to the main health care administration of the German Economic Commission . From 1952 to 1954 she worked for the medical service of the People's Police See , in 1956 she moved to the National People's Army, where she worked as a colonel in the medical service of the Ministry of National Defense .

She was politically active in the SED and was a member of the district leadership. From February 28, 1947 to October 6, 1950, she was a candidate in the Saxon state parliament .
