Marian Jankowski (born December 8, 1931 in Robaczyn ; † March 9, 2017 ) was a Polish weightlifter.

Career

As a teenager, Marian Jankowski mainly did athletics , but then turned to weightlifting , as it was very light and had very good prerequisites for a sport with weight division. At a height of 1.58 m, he weighed just under 60 kg. He made so rapid progress with coach Józef Stycziński from 1953 that he was able to compete in Polish championships for the first time in 1954. In the course of his successful career he won five medals at international championships and six Polish championships in bantam (then up to 56 kg body weight) and in featherweight (then up to 60 kg body weight).

After his time as an active weightlifter, he attended the trainer academy in Warsaw and was then an outstanding trainer until 1990, shaping such well-known top athletes as Norbert Ozimek , Zygmunt Smalcerz , Piotr Mandra and Jacek Gutowski .
