Henryk Trębicki (born October 22, 1940 in Janowszczyzna near Białystok , † June 8, 1996 in Warsaw ) was a Polish weightlifter .

Career

Trębicki was born in the small town of Janowszczyn near Białystok . During the chaos of war, his family was deported to Siberia by the Soviets . After the end of the Second World War , the family was able to return to Poland . As a young man, Trębicki, who was only 1.59 m tall and weighed about 60 kg, started lifting weights at the sports club WKS Zamość. His first coach was Tadeusz Skąmski. After it soon became clear that he was an extraordinary talent in this sport, the head coach of the Polish Weightlifting Association, Klemens Roguski, took care of him personally. From 1962 he started with many successes at the Polish and from 1964 at international championships. He represented Poland at the Olympic Games in 1964, 1968 and 1972 and won a bronze bantamweight medal in Mexico City in 1968 . He was also world and European champion three times in each of the individual disciplines. However, his bronze medal at the 1970 World Championships was revoked because of doping . Trębicki usually weighed 61 to 62 kg and always trained 5 to 6 kg body weight for the most important competitions in order to be able to start in bantam weight (up to 56 kg body weight). In featherweight (up to 60 kg body weight), national and international competition was too strong for him.

Trębicki, who initially worked as a cinema operator, completed his training as a coach after completing his active career and then worked as a coach at the sports club LKS Ostrovianka in Ostrów Mazowiecka .

He died in 1996 after a serious operation.
