Marian Schirmer (born November 21, 1650 in Brunn am Gebirge in Lower Austria; † June 27, 1705 in Vienna ) was an Austrian Cistercian and 53rd abbot of Heiligenkreuz Abbey .

Life

Marian Schirmer von Schirmthal made his solemn profession on June 4, 1673 , after which he completed his theological studies in Vienna and celebrated his primacy on August 20, 1676 . From 1679 to 1690 he worked as a land registry clerk, as such accompanied Abbot Clemens Schäffer in 1683 on his escape to Upper Austria and Bavaria and, after his return to the monastery, provided pastoral care with the other brothers present in the parishes of Heiligenkreuz , Alland and Gaaden until 1684 . After administering the Thallern estate for six months in 1689 , he was subprior from 1690 to 1693, and administrator of Wildeck from 1692 to 1693 , after which he was appointed prior and provisional of Mayerling in 1693 .

After the death of Abbot Clemens on April 23, 1693, Schirmer was elected his successor. He died on June 27, 1705 in Vienna; his body was buried in the Heiligenkreuz collegiate church.
