Marie-Christine Cazier

Marie-Christine Cazier (temporarily Cazier-Ballo ; born August 23, 1963 in Paris ) is a former French sprinter and hurdler . Her greatest success was the silver medal in the 200-meter run at the European Championships in 1986.

Athletic career

At the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 1982 in Milan, she was fifth in the 60-meter run in 7.35 s . In the summer at the European Athletics Championships in Athens , she was eighth over 200 meters in 23.08 s. With Laurence Bily , Rose-Aimee Bacoul and Liliane Gaschet , she won bronze in the 4 x 100 meter relay in 42.69 s behind the relay from the GDR and the United Kingdom.

In 1983 she took sixth place over 60 m at the European Indoor Championships in Budapest . At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki she was eliminated over 200 m in the quarterfinals, in the season she was seventh in 43.40 s.

In 1984 she won at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg over 200 m in 23.68 s silver behind Jarmila Kratochvílová . At the World Indoor Athletics Games in Paris in 1985 , she again finished second in 23.33 s, this time behind Marita Koch .

At the 1986 European Championships in Stuttgart, Cazier improved her French national record to 22.45 seconds in the 200-meter semifinals, but was only second behind Silke Gladisch from the GDR in this semifinals . In the final, Cazier again beat her record in 22.32 seconds and won silver behind Heike Drechsler and ahead of Silke Gladisch. With the French relay she finished fourth in 43.11 s.

In 1987, Cazier reached third place in the European Indoor Championships in Liévin in 23.40 seconds behind Kirsten Emmelmann from the GDR and Blanca Lacambra from Spain. At the World Championships in Rome , Cazier narrowly missed the final in 22.89 seconds over 200 meters. In the season she finished eighth and last in the finals. She had even less success in her only Olympic participation in 1988 in Seoul . Over 200 meters, Cazier was eliminated in the quarter-finals, in the season she qualified for the final, but was not used in the final, in which the French relay was seventh.

At the European Championships in 1990 in Split, Cazier-Ballo, as she was now called after marriage, retired in the first round of the 400-meter hurdles .

She reached her last big final at the World Indoor Championships in Seville in 1991 . In the 4 x 400 meter relay , she was fifth with the French team.

Four times she was French champion over 200 m (1985–1988), once over 100 m (1985) and twice over 400 m hurdles (1990, 1991). In the hall she was four times national champion over 200 m (1984, 1985, 1987, 1990) and in 1981 shared the title over 60 m with Laurence Bily .

Marie-Christine Cazier-Ballo is 1.78 m tall and weighs 58 kg.
