Maria Borisovna Mednikova

Marija Borissowna Mednikowa ( Russian Мария Борисовна Медникова ; born November 24, 1963 in Moscow ) is a Soviet - Russian anthropologist and university professor .

Life

Mednikowa graduated from the Faculty of Biology of Moscow University (MGU) . She graduated from the Department of Anthropology in 1986 . The subsequent aspirantur at this chair with Tatiana Ivanovna Alexejewa she completed in 1991. Since 1984 she has participated in expeditions to central regions of Russia , Siberia , regions north of the Black Sea , Egypt and Syria .

In 1991, Mednikova began working and researching at the Moscow Institute of Archeology (IA) of the Russian Academy of Sciences as a laboratory assistant and became a leading research assistant. In 1993 she defended her candidate dissertation on the anthropology of the population of southern Siberia in antiquity according to postcranium data in connection with problems of paleoecology . In 2002 she defended her doctoral thesis on trepanation among the ancient Eurasian peoples as historical sources. In 2005 she took over the management of the IA aspirations .

2006-2013 Mednikowa was a professor at the Moscow State University of Psychology and Education and gave a lecture on anthropology .

Mednikowa's main research areas were the bioarchaeological reconstruction based on anthropological data, the morphology and especially the somatology of humans, evolutionary anthropology and the manipulations of human body parts in antiquity. She was a member of the organizing committees of conferences: Sungir - Seminar ( England , 2004), Ecology and Demography of Humans Past and Present (Moscow, 2004), Adaptation as a factor in the formation of the anthropological peculiarities of the ancient and modern population of Eurasia (Moscow, 2008 in memory of Tatiana Ivanovna Alexejewa).
