Mario Pisu (born May 21, 1910 in Montecchio Emilia , Italy , † July 17, 1976 in Velletri , Italy) was an Italian stage, film and television actor .

Live and act

Pisu had started to act in the theater in the early 1930s, but due to his very good looks he was brought to film a little later, where from 1935 he was given supporting supporting roles as well as several leading roles for four decades. Pisu was a popular actor on screen in well-groomed conversational pieces, comedies and, above all, love melodramas of the Mussolini era when he worked with regime-loyal directors such as Enrico Guazzoni , Guido Brignone , Gennaro Righelli , Raffaello Matarazzo , Duilio Coletti , Goffredo Bonnard and Carmine , Mario Alessandrini Gal worked together.

After the Second World War, Luchino Visconti rediscovered the attractive mimes as a theater interpreter, and Pisu succeeded with character roles in modern plays such as Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman (1951) and Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya (1957). At times he also had his own small theater company. Nevertheless, Mario Pisu remained primarily connected to the film, where he worked intensively until immediately before his death in 1976. His most important patrons now included Mario Camerini , Luigi Zampa , Sergio Corbucci , Nanni Loy , Luciano Salce and above all Federico Fellini , who cast him in two of his most important works, Eight and Half and Julia and the Spirits .

In addition, Pisu was seen (especially in the 1960s) in international, often French-dominated co-productions - conventional entertainment films in which he had popular colleagues such as Louis de Funès , Michèle Mercier , John Mills and Horst Buchholz as partners. In 1954 he also tried his hand at being a film director. Pisu has also been seen in several television productions (including multi-part series and series) and, due to his sonorous voice, has also taken on an abundance of dubbing roles.

Private

Mario Pisu was married to the actress Lilli Trucchi. His son was the former child actor (during the Second World War) Silverio Pisu (1937-2004), his brother the comedian Raffaele Pisu (* 1925)
