Mario de Jesús Báez

Mario César de Jesús Báez (born August 18, 1924 in San Pedro de Macorís , † September 11, 2008 ) was a Dominican composer and music publisher.

De Jesús began writing essays and articles on art and music at an early age. He received his first musical training from Pablo Bello , the director of the band in his hometown. In 1946 he went to New York as editor of the Revista Musical . There he worked as a correspondent for various Latin American magazines and began studying music. In 1950 he became music editor at Peer International . He had his first success as a composer with No toques ese disco , interpreted by Bienvenido Granda and the Sonora Matancera . In 1959 he moved to Mexico. There were boleros like Ya tú verás (with Virginia López) and Ayúdame Dios mío (with María Elena Sandoval ). In 1968 de Jesús founded the Editorial Musical Latinoamericana (EMLASA), and in 1975 the Editora Leo Musical , where a significant repertoire of Mexican music was published.
