Marcus Mills Pomeroy "Mark" Arie (born March 27, 1882 in Thomasboro , † November 19, 1958 in Champaign ) was an American sports shooter .

successes

Mark Arie began shooting sports in 1905. He competed in the Grand American Handicap for over 30 years, winning the Grand Doubles in 1912 and 1934 . In 1923 and 1928 he also secured the individual title. Arie competed in the Trap discipline at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp . In this he was before his compatriots Frank Troeh and Frank Wright with 95 points Olympic champion . He also finished the team competition with the US team in first place, with 547 points the US had 44 points ahead of the second placed Belgians.

Arie was a member of the All-American Trap team six times , including consistently from its first composition in 1927 until 1930. In 1930 he was also world champion in Rome . Mark Arie was inducted into the Trap Shooting Hall of Fame in 1970 .
