George Patrick Genereux (born March 1, 1935 in Montreal , † April 10, 1989 ibid) was a Canadian marksman and professor of radiology .

successes

George Genereux won at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki , his only Olympic participation, in the discipline trap the gold medal. With 192 points he was Olympic champion from Swedes Knut Holmqvist and Hans Liljedahl at the age of 17 . This made him the youngest Canadian gold medalist at the Olympic Games until 2016 and the only Olympic champion of the Canadian delegation at the 1952 Games. In the run-up to the Games, he had also taken second place at the World Championships . Genereux was active for the Saskatoon Gun Club .

For his Olympic victory, Genereux received the Lou Marsh Trophy in 1952 , and was also inducted into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame in 1953 and into the Hall of Fame of Canadian Sports in 1955 . While still active as a marksman, he completed a bachelor's degree at the University of Saskatchewan . In 1960 he graduated from McGill University with a degree in medicine , specializing in radiology , where he worked as a professor at the Royal University Hospital in his native Saskatoon .
