Gyula Halasy (until 1918: Gyula von Halasy ; * July 19, 1891 in Oradea , † December 20, 1970 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian bank lawyer and marksman.

Life

Gyula Halasy studied law and economics at the Universities of Budapest and Vienna as well as briefly agriculture at the Agricultural University Berlin , where he became a member of the RSC- Corps Saxonia in the winter semester of 1911/12 . He completed his studies in Vienna with a doctorate as Dr. iur. from. He then served as a one-year volunteer with the Austro-Hungarian hussars and became a lieutenant in the reserve. In the First World Warhe was seriously injured in a mine explosion and lost his voice for 8 months. Promoted to first lieutenant in the reserve in 1916, he received six high military awards. After the First World War he became the deputy director of the Sparkasse in Kleinwardein.

Marksman

Gyula Halasy was a versatile athlete. He was active in boxing, fencing, horse riding and ice skating as well as athletics. However, he came to the highest sporting fame in clay pigeon shooting. At the age of five he received his first training in firearms and subsequently developed into one of the best sport shooters in Hungary. Since Hungary was still excluded from participation in 1920, Halasy was able to take part in the Olympic Games in Paris for the first time in 1924 . While he only reached 10th place in the team competition of clay pigeon shooting with the Hungarian team, he won the gold medal in the individual competition. After a total of 100 shots he was tied with the Finnish shooter Konrad Huber with 98 hits, which meant an Olympic record . In the play-off that became necessary, he prevailed 10: 9 without a miss.

At the World Pigeon Shooting Championships in 1932, he won gold in the team competition and bronze in the individual. At the World Clay Pigeon Shooting Championships in Berlin in 1936, he won gold in the team competition and silver in the individual. In 1937 he took 4th place at the World Clay Pigeon Shooting Championships.

At the European clay pigeon shooting championships in Berlin in 1936, he won the title in both team and individual competitions. At the European Clay Pigeon Shooting Championships in Helsinki in 1937, he finished fourth with the team.

Until the age of 70 he was an active sports shooter. In the 1950s he coached the Hungarian national sport shooting team.
