As a 15-year-old Engel began to take part in FIS races in January 2007 . He made his first appearance in the Nor-Am Cup in November 2009. A month later, he won his first FIS race. In December 2012 he achieved a podium finish for the first time in a Nor-Am race, which was followed by two more in winter 2013/14. He made his debut in the World Cup on January 26, 2014 in the Hahnenkamm Combination in Kitzbühel , where he did not reach the goal. Without a single countable World Cup result, Engel almost created a sensation on January 5, 2017, when he surprisingly finished third in the first run of the Zagreb slalom and even left Marcel Hirscher behind, but then in the second run shortly before the Goal eliminated. Three days later, he was ranked 24th in the Adelboden slalom , winning World Cup points for the first time in the 25th attempt. He celebrated his first victory in the Nor-Am Cup on February 4, 2017 in Vail . Engel took part in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , where he competed in team competitions and slalom. On March 4, 2018, he achieved his best ever World Cup result, 19th place in the slalom in Kranjska Gora . A little later he won two Nor-Am slaloms, with which he won the discipline ranking.
