Markus Sackmann (born March 1, 1961 in Roding ; † September 4, 2015 there ) was a German lawyer and politician ( CSU ). From 1990 to 2013 he was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament for the Cham constituency . From 1991 until his death he was a member of the CSU party executive. From 2007 to 2008 he was State Secretary in the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs and from 2008 to 2013 in the Bavarian Ministry of Social Affairs . There he was particularly committed to strengthening voluntary work.

Professional and political career

After Roding elementary school, Sackmann attended the humanistic-modern language Robert-Schuman-Gymnasium in Cham and graduated from high school in 1981. He did basic military service with the Panzer Reconnaissance Battalion 4 in Roding, then was a regular soldier and lastly first lieutenant . He completed his law and political science studies at the University of Regensburg in 1989 with the state examination in law. From May 1990 he was a city councilor in Roding and a district councilor in the Cham district . In 1990 he became a member of the state parliament for the first time in the district of Cham ( constituency of Upper Palatinate ), and in 1991 a member of the CSU party executive. From 1991 to 1995 he was state chairman of the Junge Union Bayern.

In 1993 he became chairman of the CSU district association of Cham, and in 1995 he was deputy chairman of the CSU district association of Upper Palatinate . In the course of the investigation into Sackmann's parliamentary group colleague Hans Wallner , Sackmann's private use of the state parliament's office telephones came to light in 1997. He immediately paid around 600 DM for their non-official use. From 2003 to 2007 he was deputy chairman of the CSU parliamentary group in the Bavarian state parliament. From 2005 to 2007 he was treasurer of the CSU parliamentary group, from 2007 to 2008 State Secretary in the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology and Chairman of the State Secretary Committee “Rural Areas in Bavaria”.

On October 30, 2008, Sackmann became State Secretary in the Bavarian State Ministry for Labor and Social Affairs, Family and Women . There Sackmann campaigned, among other things, for strengthening volunteer work and initiated the introduction of the Bavarian volunteer card . He gathered the key players in voluntary work in Bavaria at the “Round Table for Citizenship Commitment”, which under his leadership formulated a policy paper with recommendations for the future of voluntary work, which was approved by the state government in 2011. In 2014, the Bavarian volunteer card was awarded for the 50,000th time in a ceremony in the Bavarian State Parliament.

At the beginning of April 2013, Sackmann announced that he would no longer run for the Bavarian state elections in 2013 due to illness . In July 2013 he was re-elected as district chairman of the CSU in the Cham district. He was also re-elected to the CSU executive committee in December 2013 with the best result in the assessor elections. In the municipal elections in 2014, Sackmann was re-elected to the Rodingen city council and the district council of the Cham district.

Private

Sackmann was married and had two children. His father was the former Bavarian State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Franz Sackmann . In the summer of 2012 he was diagnosed with three brain tumors. On September 4, 2015, he died of cancer in Rodingen Hospital .
