Markus Steinwender

Markus Steinwender (* 1971 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian theater actor and director .

Markus Steinwender studied computer science in Salzburg, but then moved to the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz to study acting. After the stage entrance examination he played at the Salzburg State Theater ( Macbeth , director: Frank Helmund; Rembrandt B12 , director: Barbara Neureiter), in the Kleiner Theater Salzburg and in various independent productions. This was followed by assistant director at the Elisabethbühne Salzburg with Renate Rustler-Ourth , from 2001 to 2004 he was engaged at the Stadttheater Konstanz . There he played u. a. in Die Schaukel (Mazya, directed by Brigitte Soraperra), Cyrano (Roets nach Rostand, directed by Bernhard Stengele), Stones (Lycos / Nantsou, directed by Markus Heinzelmann), Baal (Brecht, directed by Dagmar Schlingmann), Die Reise nach Brasilien (Charms, director: Gertrud Pigor), Der Menschenfeind (Molière, director: Dagmar Schlingmann), Wildwechsel (Kroetz, director: Franziska Schütz), Orestie 3 (Euripides, director: Markus Heinzelmann) and Moby Dick (Melville, director: Markus Heinzelmann ).

Markus Steinwender is a founding member of the theaterachse (1994).

In 2007 he won the first Salzburg Culture Poster Prize for his poster for Goethe's Faust 1 . In 2008 Steinwender founded MAZAB as an artistic project platform with a focus on contemporary theater and performance with the inclusion of new media. since 2007 he has been part of the artistic management team of the small theater.haus der free scene in Salzburg , which he also heads as managing director.

Several of his productions were invited to the International Shakespeare Festival at the Globe Theater in Neuss . He staged a. a. at the Theaterhaus Jena , at the Children's Theater in Linz and at the Landesbühne-Nord ( Wilhelmshaven ).
