Marlborough Engineering Limited was a New Zealand manufacturer of automobiles .
Company history
The Briton John North Birch emigrated to New Zealand in 1905. In 1912 he founded the company in Blenheim . He made engines and started developing an automobile. Production ran from 1919 to 1922. The brand name was Marlborough . Birch moved to Gisborne in 1922 and later founded the Carlton Car Company .
Deviating from this, one source states that the company name Geo. Birch, Motor Garage read.
Products
Birch made boat engines and stationary engines.
For his automobiles he developed a four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 5823 cm³ , which is described as very complex. One source states that he ended up using a built-in motor from another manufacturer. Overall, there was only one vehicle that was used as a taxi after it was sold.
The buyer was James Fuller. The engine still exists today while the vehicle was scrapped.
