Mistral (car brand)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mistral or Ford Mistral was a New Zealand car brand.

Brand history

The company Mistral Cars from Christchurch began in 1957 with the production of automobiles and kit cars . From 1959 to 1960, Weltex Plastics continued production from the same location. The last manufacturer was Emslie and Flockton from Dunedin from 1960 to 1962 . A source confirms Weltex Plastics under the direction of Bob Blackburn and Emslie and Flockton , although written there by Elmslie & Flockton Limited .

Other sources name Blackwell Engineering or Mistral (Ford) Cars as the only manufacturer and 1952 to 1957 as the production period. However, all years before 1955 are excluded.

The only known production number relates to production at Weltex Plastics and is ten complete vehicles and ten bodies. However, the production period (1956–1960) does not match.

Roger Wilson tried to resume production in 1989.
