Mart de Kruif (born September 1, 1958 in Apeldoorn ) is a Dutch lieutenant general and commander of the Dutch land forces , comparable to the German inspector of the army .

Life

Career

Mart de Kruif joined the Dutch armed forces in 1977 and completed his military and officer training in Breda . From 1981 he was used in various positions in the 11th Pantserinfanteriebataljon . In 1991 he successfully completed a course on military studies in The Hague and was subsequently transferred to the 41 Pantser Brigade in Seedorf, Lower Saxony , where he held the post of S3 in the brigade staff (responsible for planning, issuing orders and managing ongoing operations). In 1994 he was transferred to the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg , where he completed the general staff course.

In 1996 he was promoted to Luitenant-Kolonel ( lieutenant colonel ) and joined the staff of the Dutch land forces in The Hague. This was followed by another assignment in Seedorf as commander of the 42nd Pantserinfanteriebataljon , with whom he was stationed in 2001 for six months as part of the 11th SFOR contingent in Bosnia-Herzegovina . In 2002, de Kruif was employed again to obtain a master's degree in Strategic Studies from the United States Army War College in Carlisle , Pennsylvania . This was followed by two further staff assignments in the staff of the Army in The Hague from 2003 to 2006, before he took over command of the 43 Gemechaniseerde Brigade in Havelte in 2007 and was promoted to Brigadiereraal .

On March 27, 2008 he was appointed Generaal-majoor from October 2008 to November 2009 as Commander, Regional Command South in the foreign mission in Afghanistan ( ISAF ), commander of 45,000 soldiers. From May 2010 onwards, de Kruif was deputy commander in chief of the land forces, before taking command himself on October 25, 2011.
