The Siechenweiher is a still water in the city of Meersburg in the Lake Constance district of Baden-Württemberg in Germany .

location

It lies at an altitude of 465  m above sea level. NHN , about 800  meters northeast of Meersburg city center, west of federal highway 31 and north of federal highway 33 .

Inflow and outflow

The main inlet of the pond is the Heddelbach , which comes from the Neuweiher and flows in from the east ; most of the runoff goes to Lake Constance , thus to the Rhine and ultimately to the North Sea .

history

The "Siechenweiher", laid out as a fish pond in the Middle Ages , was almost silted up at the beginning of the 1960s . In 1967/68 it was desludged and reeds and wood removed from the bank area. The water level is regulated by a monk in the middle of the dam.
Today the lake is owned by the Spitalfonds Meersburg, which leased it to a local fishing club .

Sea data and hydrology

The water surface of the "Siechenweiher" is 2.4  hectares . With a maximum depth of 2.5 meters and an average depth of 1.3 meters, the volume is around 31,300  cubic meters .

The catchment area of ​​the pond - ten percent is used by forest, 75% by agriculture, of which 22% as green, 35% as arable land and 43% for fruit and wine growing - covers 227 hectares.

Since 2000 Meersburg, Daisendorf and Stetten (both only catchment area) have been involved in the action program for the rehabilitation of Upper Swabian lakes with the “Siechenweiher” . An important goal of this program is to reduce nutrient inputs in streams, lakes and ponds and thereby improve and maintain the condition of the water bodies.

Flora and fauna

The “Siechenweiher” is stocked with eels , perch , pike , crucian carp , roach , common carp and pikeperch , among others .
