The bathing lake is a still body of water in the area of ​​the Baden-Württemberg municipality Ummendorf in the district of Biberach in Germany .

location

The approximately six hectare "bathing lake" is located about 900 meters west of the Ummendorfer town center, at an altitude of about 538  m above sea level. NHN . It originated in the 20th century as a quarry pond east of the nature reserve " Ummendorfer Ried " (reserve number 4027) and is part of the protected landscape area " Upper Rißtal " (4.26.037).

The lake is owned by the municipality of Ummendorf, which has leased it to a local fishing club .

Hydrology

The catchment area of ​​the "bathing lake" extends over six hectares. The size of the water surface is 6.4  hectares , with an average depth of 7.0 meters and a maximum depth of 15.5 meters, the volume is around 448,000 cubic meters.

The inflow of the lake takes place through groundwater and springs, the outflow over the Riss and the Danube into the Black Sea .

Since 2010, Ummendorf and Biberach an der Riß (catchment area only) have been involved in the action program for the rehabilitation of Upper Swabian lakes with the “bathing lake” . An important goal of this program is to reduce nutrient inputs in streams, lakes and ponds and thereby improve and maintain the condition of the water bodies.

95 percent of the lake's catchment area is used for forest and five percent for agriculture.

use

In the summer months, the municipality of Ummendorf operates the natural swimming pool on the eastern bank with changing rooms, showers and kiosk, which is also accepted by many visitors from Biberach and the surrounding area. The bathing operation is monitored by the local Biberach group of the DLRG - water rescue .
