The Schwaigfurter Weiher is a still water in the area of ​​the Baden-Württemberg city Bad Schussenried in the district of Biberach in Germany .

location

The approximately 14 hectares large Schwaig Furter pond with an island in the middle is about two and a half kilometers south of the Bad Schussenrieder city center at an altitude of 548.1  meters above sea level. NHN , north of the county road 7559 from Otterswang to Laimbach .

Hydrology

The pond was dammed up in 1480 by the Schussenried Premonstratensian monastery to operate the mill and for fish farming ; today it is privately owned.

Its catchment area extends over 2,474 hectares. The size of the water surface is 13.8  hectares , with an average depth of 1.3 meters and a maximum depth of 2.9 meters, the volume is around 181,000 cubic meters.

The main tributaries of the pond are the Schussen , Finsterbach and Krebsbach . The Schussen also drains it to Lake Constance , the Rhine and ultimately to the North Sea .

Since 2005 Bad Schussenried as well as Aulendorf and Ingoldingen (catchment area only) with the Schwaigfurter Weiher have been involved in the action program for the rehabilitation of Upper Swabian lakes . An important goal of this program is to reduce nutrient inputs in streams, lakes and ponds and thereby improve and maintain the condition of the water bodies.

15 percent of the catchment area of ​​the lake is used for forest and 70 percent for agriculture - 40 percent of which is grassland and 60 percent arable land.
