The main inlet of the lake is the Kügelegraben coming from the south from a boggy area , which flows through the lake and then also the Schlossmühleweiher and ultimately drains via the Reutibach into the Danube and thus to the Black Sea .
Since 2015 Uttenweiler is the swimming pond on the action program for the rehabilitation of Upper Swabian lakes involved. An important goal of this program is to reduce nutrient inputs in streams, lakes and ponds and thereby improve and maintain the condition of the water bodies.
15 percent of the catchment area of the lake is used for forest and 85 percent for agriculture - mainly arable land (60%) and grassland (25%).
