The pond was originally created by monks from the Rot an der Rot monastery . It is owned by the municipality. The pond is leased to the Rot an der Rot fishing association. Its water area is 2.8 hectares . The average depth is 2.1, the largest 5.5 meters. Its catchment area covers 165 hectares and it has a volume of 59,600 cubic meters. The overflow of the pond flows into the Rot , which flows into the Danube . 70% of the catchment area of ​​the pond is used as forest and 30% as agricultural land. 73% of the agricultural area is grassland and 27% arable land .

Giant hogweed grows at the inlets . When the water supply is high, the inlets are contaminated with phosphate due to intensive use by agriculture .

Bathing pond and fishing spot

The fox pond is a natural pond where swimming is tolerated at your own risk. It is not listed as a swimming lake with regular water tests. Facilities such as showers and toilets are not available. Barbecuing and camping is not tolerated in the area of ​​the fox pond. In the event of violations, it must be expected that the police will intervene.

But there is also angling. The pond is stocked with perch , pike , carp , rainbow trout , roach , rudd and tench .
