The Kreuzweiher is a still water in the area of ​​the Baden-Württemberg community Neukirch in the Lake Constance district in Germany.

location

The pond is located around two kilometers south-west of the Neukirch town center, between the districts of Wittenberg , Wildpoltsweiler and Unterlangensee , at an altitude of about 539  m above sea level. NHN . The Kreuzweiher is part of the nature reserve Kreuzweiher-Langensee, which was designated in 1973 and expanded in 1994 .

history

The cross pond was artificially created on the site of a former natural lake. Already in 1269 a pond was mentioned here as an accessory by Alfred von Summerau .

Hydrology

The size of the lake basin is 5.7  hectares , the length about 450 meters, the width 190 meters. Its maximum depth is two meters. At an average depth of 1.3 meters, the lake has a volume of 74,400 cubic meters. The catchment area of ​​the Kreuzweiher covers around 450 hectares; 20 percent of this is forests and 70 percent is land used for agriculture. The shore length is approximately 1,300 meters.

The main inflow of the Kreuzweiher is via a meadow ditch from Langensee , the outflow via the Bollenbach into the Argen .

Inlets from Langensee, Bernried, Hüttensee

With the help of the action program for the rehabilitation of Upper Swabian lakes , extensification measures were implemented between 1995 and 2006 , and the Bodenseekreis provided funding.
From 2010, the community of Neukirch with the Kreuzweiher, Langensee, Mahlweiher in Ebersberg and Jägerweiher will again be involved in the action program for the rehabilitation of Upper Swabian lakes. An important goal of this lake program is to reduce nutrient inputs in streams, lakes and ponds and thereby improve and maintain the condition of the water bodies.

Flora and fauna

The bank zones are flat and with the definitions of silting zones , for example, typical plants stiffness sedge ( Carex elata ), overgrown; except for the flour primrose , yellow iris , sedum plant , fever clover and sundew . In the water grow, among other things, the spiky thousand leaf ( Myriophyllum spicatum ), the white water lily ( Nymphaea alba ), which is a typical representative of floating leaf plants , the yellow pond rose ( Nuphar lutea ) and the flood pondweed ( Potamogeton nodosus ).

fauna

Until 2000, eel , perch , bream , pike , crucian carp , carp , roach , rudd , tench , bleak , catfish and pikeperch were present in the pond. Great crested grebes , teal , black-headed gull , reed bunting , pond warbler , little bittern and little grebe breed in the bank area .

Others

At the overflow of the Kreuzweiher, near Wilpoltsweiler, there is a bathing facility with a jetty and a lawn for sunbathing.

Coming from Wittenberg, the first stage of the Jubiläumsweg Bodenseekreis , a 111-kilometer hiking trail that was signposted in 1998 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Bodenseekreis , leads around the pond from Kressbronn via Unterlangensee to the center of Neukirch.
