The Bibersee is a still water in the area of the Baden-Württemberg community Fronreute in the district of Ravensburg in Germany .
location
The approximately three hectare large Bibersee naturally belongs to the Upper Swabian hill country . It belongs to the Blitzenreuter Lake District , lies west of the Blitzenreute district and east of the Fronhofen district at an altitude of 574 m above sea level. NHN .
The lake is surrounded by the Bibersee nature reserve of the same name .
description
The almost circular lake with a diameter of around 250 meters lies in a dead ice hole that formed at the end of the Worm Ice Age 16,000 years ago . He is mentioned for the first time in a deed of donation in 1090. In 1155, Emperor Friedrich I Barbarossa confirmed his possessions to the Benedictine monastery Weingarten , including the " Lacus Bibersee "; Since then the water has been used for fish farming .
Today the nutrient-poor lake has a narrow belt of water lilies and silted reed, as well as a limestone bog and whistle-grass meadows with emerging willow and buckthorn bushes in the edge zone .
Hydrology
The catchment area of the Bibersee covers around 66 hectares. With an area of 3.2 hectares and an average depth of 2.9 meters - the maximum is 4.7 meters - the lake contains around 91,400 cubic meters of water. It is fed from the groundwater and drainage; it drains over a trench to the Hühler Ach and on to the Schussen and Lake Constance .

Flora and fauna

Among the flora worthy of protection are the following plant species :
- Rush cutting ( Cladium mariscus ), also called Schneidried , a swamp plant from the sour grass family
- Yellow pond rose ( Nuphar lutea ), a species of the water lily family
- Common pond rush ( Schoenoplectus lacustris ), also from the sour grass family
- Ostrich loosestrife ( Lysimachia thyrsiflora ), a representative of the primrose family that grows up to 60 cm high
- White water lily ( Nymphaea alba ), also from the water lily family
fauna
In 1990 included eel , perch , bream , white bream , pike , carp , roach , rudd , tench and catfish to fish in the beaver lake, 2000, bleak and zander .
The fauna worth protecting include the following species:
- Small garnet eye ( Erythromma viridulum ), a member of the slender dragonfly family
- Pointed spot ( Libellula fulva ), a species from the family of the sailing dragonflies
- Western wedge damsel ( Gomphus pulchellus ), a species of dragonfly from the river damsel family
