Action program for the rehabilitation of Upper Swabian lakes
The Action Program for the Rehabilitation of Upper Swabian Lakes (SOS) was founded in order to put a stop to the sometimes questionable aquatic ecological development due to high inputs of plant nutrients and the resulting silting up of many Upper Swabian lakes and ponds .
The lakes - relics of the Würmkaltzeit - and ponds - created especially in the Middle Ages by monasteries and noble houses - are formative components of the Upper Swabian landscape.
history
The program was founded in 1989 on the initiative of the Bodensee-Oberschwaben regional association ; The Tübingen regional council took over the coordination . At that time, 33 lakes and ponds in three districts were looked after.
From 1995 to 2000, the program was coordinated by the “Lake Program Coordination Office” in the Ravensburg district office .
The "PRO REGIO Oberschwaben" has been coordinating the program since 2000. She advises private individuals and municipalities on issues relating to water remediation, develops remediation concepts, does public relations and helps with the procurement of funding.
care, support
From a scientific and water management point of view, the action program has been supervised by the Building and Environment Office of the Ravensburg District Office since January 1, 2017. Ten employees from the 'Surface Waters' department are involved in the work of the action program.
Farmers who cultivate areas in the catchment areas of the ponds and lakes are advised by the agricultural offices of the four districts of Biberach , Ravensburg , Sigmaringen and Lake Constance involved in the lake program in order to reduce diffuse and selective nutrient inputs.
Lakes and ponds
97 lakes and ponds are currently being investigated in the action program in 47 municipalities, and 16 (dark background) standing water bodies that have already been removed from the program are still being monitored. (As of July 2018)
