Iller-Rottal is a landscape protection area designated by the Biberach District Office on July 29, 1971 by ordinance in the area of ​​the municipalities of Berkheim , Dettingen an der Iller , Erlenmoos , Erolzheim , Kirchberg an der Iller , Kirchdorf an der Iller , Ochsenhausen , Rot an der Rot , Schwendi , Tannheim and Gutenzell-Hürbel . With over 144 km² it is the largest landscape protection area in Baden-Württemberg.

location

The Iller-Rottal landscape protection area is located in the east of the Biberach district on the state border with Bavaria. It includes parts of the Illertal and the Rottal , as well as the landscapes in between with the exception of the localities. It belongs to the natural areas Holzstocks and Unteres Illertal .

Landscape character

The protected area is mainly characterized by agriculture. There are also grassland areas along the rivers. The molasse ridge between the valleys is largely forested.

Contiguous protected areas

The FFH area Rot, Bellamonter Rottum and Dürnach runs through the landscape protection area . The Balzheim landscape protection area connects to the north . In the southwest the Höllwiesental conservation area . On the Bavarian side, the Illerauen protected landscape areas connect north of Buxheim and Illerauwald from Neu-Ulm to Kellmünz .
