The Laubbacher Mühleweiher is a still body of water in the Baden-Württemberg community of Ostrach in the Sigmaringen district in Germany.
location and size
The pond is located around 3.8 kilometers south-east of the center of Ostrach and around 1.3 kilometers south-east of the hamlet of Laubbach on the right foot of the slope of the Ostrach valley. The Laubbacher Mühle stands next to the pond under the summit of the Hungerberg ( 651.5 m above sea level ) .
The pond has an area of 0.69 hectares and is rounded with a diameter of about one hundred meters. At the deepest point, the water is about 3.3 meters high. The bank is around 640 meters long. To the south-east of the pond stretches a collection of small ponds with probably the same total area. The catchment area of the Laubbacher Mühlweiher covers 42 hectares; 60 percent of this is forest and 40 percent is used for agriculture.
The lake is privately owned and located in the 676-hectare conservation area no. 4.37.030 Altshausen-Laubbach-Fleischwangen .
Currently (as of January 2016) the pond has been drained: the dam to the former mill needs to be secured or renewed after it has been undermined by beavers .
Emergence
The pond was originally created as a mill and fish pond. It is part of a system with 19 ponds, some of which are in operation as holding and rearing ponds, others are biotopes . The Mühleweiher flows over the Laubbacher Mühlenbach, which is a little more than fifty meters away, to the Ostrach , all other ponds drain to the Pfrunger Ried .
ecology
The forest and agricultural areas surrounding the pond (40 percent grassland, 60 percent arable land) are used intensively, because the usable areas are also still on the slope, so a considerable amount of nutrients is brought in from them.
