Martin Hecht (Author)

Martin Hecht (born November 5, 1964 in Würzburg ) is a German author , publicist and writer .

Live and act

Martin Hecht grew up in Rottweil am Neckar . After doing his community service as a paramedic, he studied political science, modern history and sociology at the Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg im Breisgau from the winter semester 1986/87 . From October 1991 to June 1992 he was a DAAD scholarship holder at City University London and obtained an English “Master of Arts” degree in “Communications Policy Studies” with a thesis on “The Ideology of Nationalism in Television News”. In 1993 he completed his studies in Freiburg with a “Magister Artium”. As a scholarship holder of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung , he then completed his doctorate under Wilhelm Hennis with a dissertation on the concept of freedom under Max Weber , Alexis de Tocqueville and Jean-Jacques Rousseau .

During his studies, Martin Hecht interned at Tag / Traum-Filmproduktion Cologne, at ZDF in the editorial offices “ Das kleine Fernsehspiel ” and “ heute journal ” in Mainz , in the ZDF studio in London and in the newsroom of the NDR in Hamburg . From 1996 to 1998 he was an editorial volunteer at Südwestrundfunk in Baden-Baden, Stuttgart and London - and then worked as a television reporter for SWR and ARD . After the birth of his son, he took parental leave in 2002.

For many years, he writes, among other things free for TIME , the Frankfurter Rundschau , the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , the Süddeutsche Zeitung , Psychology Today and Spiegel online .

He is a regular author of radio features for SWR 2 Kultur .
