Martin Pieckenhagen (born November 15, 1971 in East Berlin ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper . Since January 2019 he has been the sports director at Hansa Rostock .

Career

As a player

Beginning in Berlin

Pieckenhagen, who was born in East Berlin , learned to play football at BSG Medizin Buch and in 1980 joined the youth team at 1. FC Union Berlin . After ten years he was promoted to the squad of the first men's team and made his competitive debut for them in 1991. In the major league season 1992/93 he was the goalkeeper at Union. The team took first place in their league season and initially prevailed in the promotion round against city rivals Tennis Borussia . Because of a forged bank guarantee, the club's license was withdrawn and Tennis Borussia rose.

Pieckenhagen then moved to Tennis Borussia Berlin for the 1993/94 season. He made his professional debut on matchday 1 of the season in the home game against his future club 1. FSV Mainz 05 . Since he was only the club's substitute goalkeeper behind Gerald Hillringhaus , he had to wait until matchday 29 for his next appearance. In total, he came on eight missions during this time. As the bottom of the table, Tennis Borussia was relegated to the regional league at the end of the season .

Duisburg and Rostock

Pieckenhagen signed a contract with the then first division club MSV Duisburg in the summer of 1994 . Here he was only number two as the representative of Holger Gehrke . The goalkeeper fought over this position with Jürgen Rollmann, who was five years his senior . Nevertheless, he came to his premiere in the 1st Bundesliga. Rollmann, who had started the season as number one, was replaced by coach Ewald Lienen at half time on the 4th match day of the season when the score was 0: 3 against FC Bayern Munich and replaced by Pieckenhagen, who did not score another goal until the final whistle cashed. After two more league and one cup games in the starting line-up, Lienen relied on Gehrke from day 9. Duisburg was ultimately only penultimate and Pieckenhagen relegated again. Nevertheless, he remained loyal to the club and went with this in the second division season 1995/96. But here, too, the Berliner was only number 2. After all, Pieckenhagen was part of the MSV squad that made it back up.

Pieckenhagen did not stay, however, and moved to the Ostseeklub FC Hansa Rostock . The goalkeeper wore the jersey for Hansa for the next five years. After only brief appearances in the Bundesliga in 1996/97 and mostly just sitting on the bench, he replaced Perry Bräutigam in the course of the following season and became the new number 1. In the same year, Hansa took sixth place with 51 Points, Hansa Rostock's best result to date in the history of the club. Rostock qualified for the 1998 UEFA Intertoto Cup , in which Pieckenhagen completed two missions for Hansa.

Hamburger SV and Heracles Almelo

In 2001 Pieckenhagen went to Hamburger SV . With HSV he won the league cup at the beginning of the 2003/04 season . In the final they beat Borussia Dortmund 4-2. When Thomas Doll became a trainer in Hamburg, Pieckenhagen moved to the bench and had to give Stefan Wächter priority.

On this occasion he moved to the Dutch honor division club Heracles Almelo for the 2005/06 season . He attracted attention in November 2005 when his team beat AZ Alkmaar 2-2 . Pieckenhagen scored the equalizer with a header in the 90th minute. On October 7, 2007 he hit the headlines again after he and his team had lost 9-0 at SC Heerenveen. In March 2010, Pieckenhagen and Heracles Almelo agreed not to extend the contract, which was running out at the end of the season, in order to rejuvenate the team. He played his last game for Heracles on May 9, 2010 in the play-off second leg (1st round) against Roda JC Kerkrade . He lost the game with Heracles 1: 2 (first leg: 0: 2). In total, he came to 167 Eredivisie missions for the Dutch club.

1. FSV Mainz 05

From August 10, 2010 Pieckenhagen was under contract with 1. FSV Mainz 05 . After an injury to the regular goalkeeper Heinz Müller , he should replace the second goalkeeper Christian Wetklo in an emergency . He played his first league game for Mainz at the age of 39 on November 20, 2010, the 13th matchday of the 2010/11 season, when he was substituted on for Wetklo in the 3-2 away win against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the first half injured himself. At the end of the season he ended his active career.

Pieckenhagen played a total of 215 games in the German Bundesliga, 19 games in the 2nd Bundesliga and two European Cup games.

As a trainer and functionary

Pieckenhagen was a coach at FC Mecklenburg Schwerin from January 2014 to October 2016 . With the Schwerin team he made it to the top football league . In the spring of 2017, Pieckenhagen worked briefly as a goalkeeping coach at the Würzburger Kickers .

Since January 2019 Pieckenhagen has held the post of sports director at his former club Hansa Rostock as the successor to the released Markus Thiele.
