Martin Urban (art historian)
Martin Urban (* 1913 ; † 2002 ) was a German art historian and long-time director of the Nolde Foundation Seebüll .
Life
Martin Urban was in 1950 at the University of Kiel with the dissertation The medieval choir stalls in the monastery church of Preetz and the Lübeck stalls of the early 14th century doctorate . From 1963 to 1992 he was director of the Nolde Foundation Seebüll .
In 1988, Urban came under fire from a report on the ARD broadcast titel, thesen, temperamente . In it, the journalist Tilman Jens reported that Urban had had a barn on the island of Föhr that had been converted into a residential building in the 1970s and that it was in an area where residential development was not permitted. Urban would have received a special permit on the condition that exhibitions would be shown in the house , but would not have complied. As a result, Jens' father, the literary historian Walter Jens , resigned from the Board of Trustees of the Nolde Foundation Seebüll after twenty years of membership .
Honors
In 1980 Martin Urban was given the honorary professorship of the State of Schleswig-Holstein "in recognition and in appreciation of his great services to the research and preservation of the art of German Expressionism and, in particular, his successful endeavors to develop Emil Nolde's work and to bring it to the fore all over the world" Holstein awarded.
