Martin Zajac (born October 25, 1981 in Nitra , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Nové Zámky in the MOL league since 2013 .

Career

Martin Zajac began his career in the youth teams of HC Plastika Nitra . Due to the performances shown, he was appointed to the U18 national team in 1999 and took part in the U18 Junior World Championship with them. He scored one goal and set up another, winning the bronze medal with his team .

Following this success, and the first missions in Nitra professional team in the first league, he joined the Slovak competitors HK Dukla Trenčín , he for both the Junior Extraliga, as well as in the Slovak professional league took. Also in the following season he played for Trenčín in the professional and junior team, but moved a year later to HK Spišská Nová Ves . There he was able to score his first goal in the Extraliga and completed 52 season games. Through his hometown club in Nitra, he joined the Czech extra league team HC Dukla Jihlava in 2004 , where he scored five points in 55 games this season.

From 2005 Zajac played again in his home country at HK 36 Skalica , where he made a name for himself as a constant defensive defender who also set accents in power play .

After this successful season for Skalica he was hired by manager Jan Tabor for the Dresdner Eislöwen . At the end of December 2007, Zajac was released from the management of the Eislöwen and he moved to the Slovakian extra division club MHC Martin . He returned to his home club, HK Ardo Nitra, via the Finnish second division in the summer of 2008. In November of the same year he was signed by the EHC Klostersee . In November 2009 his contract with EHC Klostersee was terminated. In the 2010/11 season he played alternately for the Friesland Flyers in the North Sea Cup and the Slovak second division club ŠHK 37 Piešťany . For the 2011/12 season he moved to HC Neuilly-sur-Marne from the French Ligue Magnus . In the following season he was active for HC Karviná in the third division of the Czech Republic, the 2nd division . From 2013 he played for HC Nové Zámky in the MOL league and won the league championship with this club in 2014.
