The Martinskirche is a church building named after Martin Luther of the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Saxony in Großdrebnitz , town of Bischofswerda , district of Bautzen , Free State of Saxony . It belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Bischofswerda and is a cultural monument.

location

The church is located on a hill in the historic center of Großdrebnitz. It is on Dammweg 2.

history

The church was first mentioned in a document in 1346. Since the church was never destroyed, its masonry most likely dates back to the time it was built. However, the church was rebuilt several times, so that hardly anything of its Romanesque - Gothic transition style can be recognized.

A considerable renovation took place in 1852. Windows were installed on the north side of the church for the first time, and the existing windows on the south side were enlarged to match the size of the newly built windows. The church tower received an entrance and also a window. The floor originally made of bricks was replaced by one made of granite slabs , and there is a boarding under the pews that were set up in the course of the renovation in the church . The galleries on the south side were also drawn in during this renovation . They carry symbols on the wall of the second gallery that are assigned to the words below on the wall of the first gallery.

In 1909, a resolution by the church council gave the Martinskirche its current name, which refers to Martin Luther . The name is reminiscent of the 350th anniversary of the introduction of the Reformation in Großdrebnitz.

Between autumn 2003 and spring 2005, the church's roof and facade were renovated.

Building description

The Martinskirche is a hall church with a flat wooden ceiling. The roof was covered with wooden shingles until 1795 , then with roof tiles . It was re-covered in 1977.

The top of the church tower originally only reached a little beyond the church roof. Until 1818, the building therefore had a turret on the church roof. The tower was only raised in 1894.

For a long time, the sacristy served as a space for heating the church. In 2005 it was restored to its original purpose.

Furnishing

altar

The pulpit altar , created in 1852, bears a key above the crucifix as a sign of the authority conferred by Jesus Christ on the church to forgive and keep sins ( Mt 16:19  LUT ). Its predecessor, a winged altar , was probably from 1669 or earlier. The two major from tin -made altar candlesticks are dated 1670th A pastor's crypt, which was used until 1742 but is now walled up, lies under the chancel.

Baptismal font

The baptismal font of sandstone comes from the 1909th

Others

In 1852 the church received a chandelier and pews as part of the major renovation. At the church is the listed tomb of honor god Bruno Barthel (born April 23, 1856 in Langhennersdorf ; † January 18, 1933 in Kleindrebnitz ) and his wife Asta Clementine nee. Leipnitz .

organ

The Herbrig organ

The first known organ in this church dates from 1735. In 1779, the pastor's widow Fischer donated the predecessor of the current organ.

Today's organ was designed by Christian Gottfried Herbrig as Op. 3 and consecrated at Exaudi in 1828 . It is likely that Herbrig's son Wilhelm Leberecht already worked on it. In 1938 it was completely renewed by the Eule Bautzen company, and in 1955 and 2006 further inspections were carried out by the same organ building company.

The organ has a manual and a pedal . It has a mechanical action and slider chests . The disposition is as follows:
