Mateja Koležnik

Mateja Koležnik (born July 22, 1962 in Metlika ) is a Slovenian director .

life and work

Until 1999, Koležnik studied theater directing at the Academy for Theater, Radio, Film and Television at the University of Ljubljana . She completed her studies with a production of Harold Pinter's birthday party .

Koležnik mainly stages British and American authors of the 20th century such as Arthur Miller and Edward Albee . She staged at all major theaters in the former Yugoslavia , such as the Maribor National Theater, the Nova Gorica Theater , the Beogradski Internacionalni Teatarski Festival (BITEF) and the Ljubljana State and City Theater. Since the performance of Yvonne, Princess of Burgundy at the Chemnitz Theater in 2012, she has also been staging in German-speaking countries. With the play, Koležnik was invited to Maribor for the 47th Festival Borštnikovo Srečanje, the Slovenian theater meeting. Since then her work has been shown in Vienna, Leipzig and above all at the Residenztheater in Munich .

At the Theater in der Josefstadt Koleznik celebrated its Vienna debut with the direction to The Wild Duck . For this production she was nominated for the Nestroy Theater Prize in the category Best Director in 2017 . Furthermore, the play won prizes at the Rijeka Theater Festival in 2018 in the categories of Best Performance , Best Director , Best Young Talent , Best Stage Design and Best Lighting Design, as well as the Audience Award.
