The pilgrimage church Mater Dolorosa in Katzdorf is a Roman Catholic branch church of the parish of St. Josef in Neunburg vorm Wald in the district of Schwandorf .

history

In the place of the pilgrimage church in Katzdorf there was already a church in the 12th century, for which Otto the Zenger donated an Eternal Light in 1099 . Katzdorf has been known for its pilgrimage since the 14th century.

During the turmoil of the Reformation , the miraculous image was hidden. With the Counter Reformation in 1629, the Premonstratensian Norbert Pratitz rebuilt the church and promoted pilgrimage. Under Elector Maximilian , the dilapidated church was restored in 1633. It was consecrated on July 17, 1725, burned down in 1754 and was rebuilt and furnished in the Baroque style.

The image of grace was redrafted in 1936. The light dome was also opened that year. In 1951 the church received a new roof structure and in 1953 a new bell. The Marian shrine and the 15 pillars with the rosary secrets were renovated in 1959.

Building

The church is on a small hill. You can reach it via a staircase that leads off the village street. On the north side, two portals with Ionic columns and gables form the entrance to the pilgrimage church. It is a central building . A dome with a drum on it arches over the rotunda .

Furnishing

The current interior was created after the fire of 1754. Pilasters , lambrequins and cornices structure the walls. The ceiling is adorned with foliage and ribbon work . The Katzdorf coat of arms is located in a cartridge above the choir arch .

The high altar is made of marble stucco with columns rotating in opposite directions. In the central niche it contains the newly drawn image of grace. Four angels with the tools of passion flank the Pietà . A group of figures, God the Father with a dove, accompanied by two angels, is located above the cornice. In niches to the right and left of the high altar there are popularly carved figures of the scourged Savior , modeled on the Wies , and the Madonna and Child.

The left side altar shows the holy mother Anna , the right side altar is dedicated to St. John Nepomuk . It contains a picture by the Neunburg painter Anton Merz, on which St. John Nepomuk is depicted against the backdrop of the Charles Bridge in Prague . John of Nepomuk is also shown on the predella together with the queen .

The pulpit is supported by heavy volute arms. An angel with the trumpet of judgment stands on its cover .
