Mathias Fischer (born April 17, 1993 in Bergen ) is a Norwegian journalist and politician from Venstre . Since January 2020 he has been State Secretary in the Climate and Environment Ministry, the Klima- og miljødepartementet .

Life

Fischer studied philosophy at the University of Bergen . From 2008 to 2013 he was active in the youth organization Unge Venstre , among other things, he served as chairman of the association in the city of Bergen. In the parliamentary elections in 2013 he ran in the constituency of Hordaland as a candidate for a seat in the Norwegian national parliament Storting . He missed the move and became a so-called Vararepresentant , i.e. a substitute member of parliament. Immediately after the election he started to work for the Bergen newspaper Bergens Tidende (BT) and Fischer therefore resigned from the Venstre party. In 2014 he rose to the position of political commentator for the newspaper.

In 2017 he published the book Kors på halsen , an unauthorized biography about the FrP politician Sylvi Listhaug . In September 2018, Fischer moved from his position at Bergens Tidende to TV2 , where he again acted as a political commentator. In October 2019 he moved from TV2 to the PR agency TRY Råd , where he worked as a consultant.

On January 24, 2020, he was appointed State Secretary under the new Climate and Environment Minister Sveinung Rotevatn as part of a government reshuffle . It was criticized that during his time as a PR consultant he also worked for the wind power company Norsk Vind . It was also highlighted that during his time at TV2, the party's biggest problem was the Venstre chairwoman Trine Skei Grande , who was a member of the government at the time of his appointment.
