Matthew Wayne "Matt" Block , b. Hervey , (born May 16, 1966 in Whittier , California ) is a former American ice hockey player who played 40 games for the Winnipeg Jets , Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning in national hockey between 1983 and 1996 League on the position of defender . Block, who traded under his maiden name Hervey during the same, spent most of his career in theAmerican Hockey League and International Hockey League .
Career
Block, whose real name was Hervey during his active career and was born in Whittier , California , began his junior career in 1982 in the British Columbia Junior Hockey League with the Richmond Sockeyes in the Canadian province of British Columbia . From there, the defender moved to the Western Hockey League , where he played for the Victoria Cougars , Lethbridge Broncos and Seattle Thunderbirds over the next four years . He also played again some games for the Richmond Sockeyes in the BCJHL.
After completing his junior career, Hervey switched to the professional field without drafting. He signed a contract with the Moncton Hawks from the American Hockey League , over which he recommended himself during the 1987/88 season for a contract with their cooperation partner Winnipeg Jets from the National Hockey League . The defender was still on the ice for the Hawks in the following three seasons, but also completed two missions for Winnipeg in the NHL in the 1988/89 season . In August 1991, after his contract expired, Hervey joined the Boston Bruins as a free agent . There he played 16 times for Boston in the 1991/92 season , otherwise for the Maine Mariners in the AHL. After only one year in Boston, the native Californian was transferred to the Tampa Bay Lightning together with Ken Hodge junior , who in return gave Darin Kimble to Boston.
In Tampa, Hervey's stakes were shared - as in the previous year - between the NHL team and the farm team in the International Hockey League , the Atlanta Knights . However, the defender did not succeed in establishing himself permanently in the National Hockey League, so he did not find any more NHL employment for the 1993/94 season . He therefore moved to the Milwaukee Admirals in the IHL, for which he was active for two years - already under the name Block - and in the meantime completed some games for the Detroit Falcons in the Colonial Hockey League . After Block had switched to the Los Angeles Ice Dogs within the IHL before the 1995/96 season , he ended his active career at the age of 30 after the season.
