Kenneth David "Ken" Hodge junior (born April 13, 1966 in Windsor , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player of British origin, who played 157 games for the Minnesota North Stars , Boston Bruins and Tampa in the course of his playing career between 1984 and 1998 Bay Lightning has played in the National Hockey League on the position of the center . His father of the same name, Ken Hodge senior, was also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Hodge, whose father of the same name won two Stanley Cups with the Boston Bruins in the 1970s , first played between 1982 and 1984 at St. John's Preparatory School , a high school in the US state of Massachusetts . From there he moved to Boston College in the summer of 1984 , where he spent the next three years parallel to his studies for the university team in Hockey East , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In his rookie year , Hodge impressed with 64 points and was named Rookie of the Year in the division. He was also selected in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft in the third round in 46th position by the Minnesota North Stars from the National Hockey League . After a second year of college marked by injuries, the center forward was able to build on his performance before his injury-related break in his third year and led the team to win the division championship in spring 1987.

After his third year of college, Hodge switched to the professional field in the summer of 1987 when he signed a contract with the Minnesota North Stars. In the following three years, however, they mainly used the attacker in their farm team , the Kalamazoo Wings , in the International Hockey League , without making a permanent leap into the NHL during this time. He completed only five games for the North Stars during the 1988/89 season . It was only with the transfer to the Boston Bruins in August 1990 in exchange for a four-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft in 1992 that Hodge managed to earn an NHL regular place in his father's ex-team. The striker impressed with 59 points - including 30 goals - in 70 appearances, which earned him a nomination for the NHL All-Rookie Team for the 1990/91 season . In the following year, Hodge could not build on the previous season and spent a quarter of the season with the Maine Mariners in the American Hockey League at the request of management . In September 1992, the paths between player and club parted after only two years when Hodge was transferred to the Tampa Bay Lightning together with Matt Hervey in exchange for Darin Kimble .

In Tampa, too, Hodge failed to repeat his rookie season and he completed only 25 more NHL games during the year. Mainly he went on the ice for the Atlanta Knights and San Diego Gulls in the 1992/93 season . After the season, the attacker left the Lightning and joined the New York Rangers as a free agent in the summer of 1993 . There he only played in the AHL farm team Binghamton Rangers . In the following years, Hodge also failed to return to the NHL. This was followed by one-year engagements with the Kansas City Blades and Minnesota Moose in the IHL between 1994 and 1996 before he moved to Europe.

Hodge first moved to the German Ice Hockey League , where he played six games for EC Ratingen . In the same season, however, he moved to the British Ice Hockey Superleague , in which he played for two years for the Welsh capital club Cardiff Devils , with whom he won the 1997 league title. After the 1997/98 season , the Canadian ended his active career at the age of 32 and retired from professional business.
