Mattanya Cohen

Mattanya Cohen (* 1965 in Jerusalem ) is an Israeli ambassador .

Life

Cohen served in the Israel Defense Forces and gained the rank of captain . After completing his military service, he studied international relations at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem . In 1991 he received his doctorate and started working in the Israeli Foreign Ministry . From 1993 to 1996 he was Second Secretary at the Israeli Embassy in Lima and then from 1996 to 1999 First Secretary at the Israeli Embassy in Nicosia . From 1999 to 2001, Cohen was an Advisor for the Middle East in the Economic Department of the Israel Foreign Ministry. The development of economic relations between Israel, the Arab countries and the Palestinian Authority fell within his remit.

His next post took Cohen to Miami , where he worked as the Israeli consul from 2001 to 2005 . In 2005 he became Deputy Head of the Latin America Department at the Israeli Foreign Ministry. In 2006 he was appointed Head of Central America and the Caribbean . As such, he represented Israel at the General Assemblies of the Organization of American States in Florida in 2005 and in Santo Domingo in 2006 .

In July 2007 Cohen was appointed Israeli ambassador to El Salvador and Belize . Cohen is married with two children.
