Matthew Tabbert

Matthäus Tabbert (born October 25, 1625 in Wolgast , † February 28, 1675 in Greifswald ) was a Protestant theologian and general superintendent of Western Pomerania in Greifswald.

Live and act

Matthäus Tabbert was born the son of the Wolgast preposition Israel Tabbert and his wife Maria Albrecht. He was taught by his father until he attended school in Anklam in 1640 and then the pedagogy in Stettin .

Tabbert studied theology in Rostock , from 1646 in Königsberg and Greifswald , from 1650 in Jena , Wittenberg and Leipzig .

From 1652 to 1653 he stayed in Greifswald, where he temporarily worked as a preacher, but especially prepared for his doctorate to become a master . Soon afterwards he became a Swedish court preacher.

In 1656 he married Barbara Elvern, the daughter of Greifswald councilor Abraham Elvern.

Matthäus Tabbert was court preacher to Count Wrangel when he was elected professor of theology and pastor at St. Marien in Greifswald in 1660 .

In 1675 he was finally appointed General Superintendent of Western Pomerania to succeed Abraham Battus and was solemnly introduced into his office by the Szczecin General Superintendent Jakob Fabricius . But only six weeks later he died at the age of 50 in Greifswald.

He was succeeded by Augustinus Balthasar .
