Matthew Tympius

Matthäus Tympius (* 1566 in Heessen ; † March 26, 1616 in Münster ; also: Tympe , Timpe ; pseudonym: Paulus Pytthmaetus ) was a pedagogue, Catholic theologian and author and translator of spiritual literature.

Life

After studying theology at the University of Cologne from 1586 to 1593, Tympius was professor of philosophy and rhetoric at the Laurentianum grammar school in Cologne and then vice-principal in Jülich . After his ordination in 1595 he was rector of the Osnabrück cathedral school , from 1608 he was the rain of the Collegium Dettenianum and cathedral preacher at the cathedral in Münster . He is considered to be the intellectual pioneer in founding the University of Münster .
