Matthew J. Lloyd

Matthew J. Lloyd (born around 1984 in Alberta , Canada ) is a Canadian photographer and cameraman. He is a member of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers (CSC).

Life

After finishing school in Toronto, Matthew J. Lloyd took a course in business administration at the University of Leeds , but mainly worked on photography for the student newspaper. At the age of 21, he moved to Sheffield College, one of the few institutes in the UK to offer a degree in photojournalism. Even during his studies, Lloyd was able to sell photos to the regional press. After graduating, he worked for the North News press agency and published his photos in national newspapers. In 2009, he applied for The Times / Canon Young Photographer of the Year competition , which he won. The award consisted of, among other things, a six-month internship at the Times , multi-part professional camera equipment and membership of the British Press Photographers' Association for one year.

In 2007 he moved to Los Angeles, started a career as a commercial photographer and took on assignments for music videos and commercials. He worked u. a. for Toyota, Nike, Pepsi, Apple, the fashion labels Honor, Zadig & Voltaire, Ralph Lauren and Hugo Boss. In 2012 Oliver Stone hired him as a second unit cameraman for his film Savages . Lloyd shot the black and white sequences of the prologue and epilogue.

His first feature film, for which he was responsible as Director of Photography, is the comedy Robot & Frank (2012) by Jake Schreier with Susan Sarandon and Frank Langella in the leading roles. A number of short films and episodes in television series followed, such as Fargo , Marvel's Daredevil and Marvel's The Defenders . In 2018 he was involved in the filming of Chekhov's comedy The Seagull .

Prizes and awards

  • 2013: The pilot for Alpha House was nominated for an ASC Award .
  • 2014: The pilot for Fargo was nominated for an Emmy / Outstanding Cinematography.
