Matthias Konrad

Matthias Konrad (born June 6, 1943 in Lieboch ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). He was mayor of the Upper Styrian district capital Leoben .

Life

Matthias Konrad attended elementary school in Mooskirchen , then the office school Krebs in Graz and passed his Matura at the Graz workers' secondary school . He then worked for the regional health insurance fund in Graz and, after a year, from 1969 for the Federal Financial Service. While working, he studied law with a doctorate at the University of Graz . From 1988 to 1990 he was chairman of the Leoben municipal utilities, and from 1991 until his retirement in 2003 he was head of the tax office.

Matthias Konrad is married and has a daughter and a son.

Political career

Matthias Konrad has been the city councilor for finance since 1990 and mayor of the city of Leoben, where he has lived since 1975, since June 30, 1994, succeeding Reinhold Benedek , who held this office from 1985 to 1994. During Matthias Konrad's term of office, for example, the redesigned main square in Leoben was opened in 1997. Since July 5, 2005, he has been a member of the supervisory board of Steiermärkische Sparkasse . He is a member of the management of the Austrian Association of Cities . On February 6, 2014 Matthias Konrad handed over the office of mayor of Leoben to Kurt Wallner .
