Matthias Schrade (born April 7, 1979 in Tettnang ) is an entrepreneur and former politician of the Pirate Party Germany .

Life

education and profession

Schrade attended the Raichberg Gymnasium in Ebersbach an der Fils , where he graduated from high school in 1998. In April 1998 he started an e-mail stock market letter, which was continued from mid-1999 in GSC Research GmbH ( German Small Caps Research ), a company co-founded by Schrade , an independent analyst company based in Düsseldorf, of which he was managing director until the end of 2011. His articles on stock market analysis appeared regularly in the company's own media "Stock exchange everyday life - diary from stock analysis". From June 2007 to April 2010 he was a member of the supervisory board of GSC Portfolio AG, an investment company supervised by GSC Research whose shares are traded over the counter. From November 2000 to August 2010, Schrade was a member of the supervisory board of the investment company SCI AG , whose shares are traded over the counter at the Hamburg Stock Exchange.

Today GSC Research is headed by Alexander Langhorst.

From July 8, 2013 to September 12, 2014, Schrade initially worked as managing director and later as a member of the board at FCR Immobilien in Munich, which owns several shopping and specialist retail centers. During this time he took care of the conversion of the company into a stock corporation, introduced a non-recourse financing structure, handled the purchase and financing of a number of shopping centers and tripled the portfolio volume to over 20 million euros.

In autumn 2014, Schrade founded DEFAMA Deutsche Fachmarkt AG in Berlin, his own company, which wants to build up a portfolio of small specialist market and shopping centers, for which 4 million euros equity was raised. Peter Schropp, Ulrich Rücker and Henrik von Lukowicz sit on the supervisory board. DEFAMA's declared aim is to become one of the largest owners of small retail parks in Germany in the long term. The company currently owns 38 retail parks, mainly in northern and eastern Germany, with a value of more than 150 million euros. DEFAMA has been listed on the open market of the Munich Stock Exchange since July 13, 2016 .

Schrade has been married to property manager Janina Maiß since May 2016 and lives in Berlin .

Political career

Schrade joined the state association of North Rhine-Westphalia of the Pirate Party on August 13, 2009 before the federal election in Düsseldorf . According to his own statements, the trigger was the planned access restriction law and the associated “ censorship ” protests. The nickname he chose, " Kungler ", alludes to his good network .

Internal party engagement

Schrade in April 2012

Schrade, who is mainly involved in election campaigns, ran for a position on the party's national executive committee for the first time in 2010, but without success.

After another candidacy in the following year, he was elected in May 2011 as one of two assessors on the federal board. At this point in time, he had already moved to the Stuttgart district association in the Baden-Württemberg state association .

Schrade was a candidate for the state list of the Pirate Party Baden-Württemberg for the 2013 federal election . After he was not elected to any of the first ten list places, he did not run again.

Schrade announced his resignation from the federal executive committee in October 2012 after the federal party conference in the following month. He justified this step with what he believed to be no longer possible cooperation with his board colleague Johannes Ponader .

On February 17, 2014, Schrade announced on Twitter that he was leaving the party.

Other engagement

Schrade is a member of the German Protection Association for Securities Ownership and the Protection Association of Investors . He also sat on the investment committee of the Munich Investment Club from 2003 to 2011.

Economic policy positions

National debt crisis in the euro area

Schrade, who among other things worked on the economic program of the regional association of North Rhine-Westphalia, came under fire from within the party in autumn 2011 for his rather untypical euro- skeptical views on economic policy in combating the so-called " euro crisis " and received media attention.

On the Greek question , he predicted the inevitable need for a haircut based on the state balance sheets , as had to be carried out in March 2012, and criticized the usefulness of open-ended "rescue packages" such as the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM). Schrade objected to the weakening of the stability criteria for the European currency and the failure to sanction clear violations of these. In his opinion, there would be no avoiding a so-called “core euro zone” in which economically homogeneous states would remain in the interests of a more stable currency union, Schrade said at the time.

Schrade criticizes, among other things, the lack of transparency in the banking system and finance . In his view, no board member of a bank can fully explain the balance sheet of his institution. He also complains about the low level of equity security in the banking industry. He rejects the nationalization of the banking system, referring to the Landesbanken, which he believes are “amateurishly” supervised . Schrade generally considers derivatives trading to be necessary in some areas and up to a limited proportion compared to real values for risk hedging, but in his opinion a multiple of the volume must absolutely be prevented, for example through a financial transaction tax . Among other things, he criticizes the lack of transparency in terms of content in many such financial products and the resulting impossibility for investors to weigh up the risks. Since, in his opinion, government bonds are considered safe, but historically every FIAT currency system will end in national bankruptcy at some point , he is of the opinion that a detailed problem analysis of the current system must be carried out and a resulting solution for a future financial and economic system must be worked out.

After Schrade courted an application from the Hanover regional association for the federal party congress in December 2011 to vote against the ESM as a permanent institution of the European Union (EU), the content of which resembled the demands of the FDP politician and euro-skeptic Frank Schäffler (see there under Political Positions ), the PIRATE parliamentary group in the Berlin House of Representatives suggested that he quit the party.

“If Matthias wants to support an application that arose at the FDP, then he should consider whether the pirates are the right home for him. With the current state of the Liberals, one is sure to be happy about young, motivated members who help to raise the FDP in the federal government again above the five percent . "

- Christopher Lauer : MdA, PIRATEN Berlin.

Rescue operations for over-indebted states cannot be reconciled with regulatory principles, said Schrade in support of his application. The motion was not decided in the course of the party congress; alternatively, the party congress decided on a position paper in which the pirate party criticized the democratic deficits in the creation of the ESM treaty.
