Johannes Ponader
Johannes Ponader (born February 14, 1977 in Munich ) is a German theater director and former politician . From April 2012 to May 2013 he was political director of the Pirate Party .
education and profession
Ponader completed his school career in 1996 with the Abitur at the Graf-Münster-Gymnasium in Bayreuth with a grade point average of 1.0. During his school days he was engaged in the theater sector, later also at the Studiobühne Bayreuth and in several independent cabaret ensembles.
According to his own statement, Ponader studied various subjects without a degree from 1997 to 2005, first mathematics and musicology in Regensburg , then from 1998 to 2000 philosophy in Munich and from 1998 to 2005 education and theater studies also in Munich . As part of his studies, he completed training as a play and theater teacher from 1998 to 2000 . From 1997 to 2002 his studies were supported by a scholarship for talented students from the Free State of Bavaria and a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation. During his studies, Ponader, like his father, became a member of the student association Akademischer Gesangverein München in the special houses association .
In 1999 he made his directorial debut in Munich with an experimental play in the theater tent Das Schloss ( Oberwiesenfeld ). Since then he has worked as a director, mainly in music theater.
In 2011 he moved his main residence to Berlin and works from there as a freelance actor, director and author.
politics
In November 2010 he joined the pirate party at the federal party conference in Chemnitz. In connection with his change of residence in 2011, Ponader moved from their regional association Bavaria to the Pirate Party Berlin . There he was involved in the Occupy movement until the beginning of 2012 . In December 2011, at the Offenbach party congress, he proposed to include the model of an unconditional basic income in the party program. At the end of April 2012, Ponader was elected as the party's political director to succeed Marina Weisband with 74.44 percent of the vote in the “election by consent” procedure. He achieved the second best result of the nine members on the federal executive board.
Since his election, it has been a topic in the media that Ponader received unemployment benefit II . At the beginning of July 2012, he announced that he would shortly be financially independent from the job center and forego social benefits . Members of the Pirate Party initiated a fundraiser in favor of Ponaders, which received a lot of criticism from the party in the summer. In mid-October, Ponader then withdrew from the donation model. A month later he said that he regretted the fundraiser. Although his fellow board members advised him in the summer to forego talk show appearances for the time being, Ponader was still a guest of such programs. The dispute in the board reached the public with calls for resignation to Ponader. The leading candidate of the Pirate Party in Lower Saxony, Meinhart Ramaswamy, said that Ponader's frequent talk show appearances were politically ineffective: “I know that he has good socio-political ideas, but he cannot convey them; maybe it's too much of a stage - he's messing up, that's a shame. ”At the beginning of November 2012, party chairman Bernd Schlömer announced that he had spoken to Ponader. In addition, it was decided that Ponader would not attend Stefan Raab's new Polit-Talk , which was planned for mid-November 2012 .
On March 6, 2013, Ponader announced that he would give up his post as political director of the Pirate Party until the federal party conference in May 2013. Katharina Nocun was elected as his successor at the party congress .
Dispute with the Federal Employment Agency
In an interview with the Bild-Zeitung in 2012 , Heinrich Alt , a board member of the Federal Employment Agency, criticized Ponader's political activity while receiving social benefits as self-realization “at the expense of the taxpayer”. The agency reproached Ponader for spending 60 to 70 hours a week too much time on his political voluntary work and therefore not entitled to benefits. For his part, Ponader accused Alt of having called the chairman of the Pirate Party, Bernd Schlömer , to ask why the Ponader party was not paying a salary. According to Ponader, the office of political director is an honorary position . Alt confirmed the call to the Bild newspaper . But he did it out of “a fundamental interest in the Pirate Party” and “certainly not because of Mr. Ponader”. On the other hand, when asked by stern.de , Alt's press officer wanted to “neither confirm nor deny” whether Ponader's ALG-II references had been discussed in the conversation between Alt and Schlömer. According to the online magazine, however, it was “very much about Ponader's Hartz IV benefits”. In a separate article for the FAZ , Ponader had previously criticized the fact that Alt had broken social secrecy with the call . In his opinion, his fundamental rights were “trampled underfoot” through unauthorized home visits and impermissible controls by the Federal Employment Agency. Ponader also criticized the media coverage and in particular the " Springerpresse " in the matter. In connection with the dispute, Der Spiegel wrote in an article: “Ponader is annoyed that the employment agency is now getting so petty: 'I am heavily questioned by the social system because I am politically active and still receive social benefits. That is an extreme degeneration of the whole system. '"
