Matthias Tschirf (born April 25, 1957 in Vienna ) is a lawyer, Austrian civil servant and former politician ( club chairman ÖVP in the Vienna Landtag).

School and professional career

Matthias Tschirf studied law , did his doctorate and then completed a year and a half court internship . He then began his professional career as a lawyer in the Federal Chancellery . He worked as a lecturer in constitutional law at the University of Salzburg and is the author of several legal and political articles. In 1990 he was brought into his cabinet by Vice Chancellor (and Federal Minister for Federalism and Administrative Reform ) Josef Riegler, and in 1991 he was promoted to head of cabinet. After Riegler's withdrawal, Tschirf became head of cabinet of the Federal Minister for Federalism and Administrative Reform (Federal Minister in the Federal Chancellery) Jürgen Weiss . Between 1994 and 2001 he was Head of Human Resources at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs . From November 2011 to February 2019 he was section head of the corporate policy section in the same federal ministry , which has now been transformed into the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, Family and Youth . The remit of this section encompassed trade, companies, professional training and technology. Since March 2019 he has headed the presidential section of the same Federal Ministry (since 2018: Federal Ministry for Digitization and Business Location [BMDW]).

Political career

Tschirf was a member of the Vienna State Parliament from December 18, 1992 to November 2011 and a member of the City Council of Vienna. In 1996 he was elected deputy chairman of the local council club of the ÖVP, in April 2001 he was elected executive club chairman, and finally he was club chairman from June 2002 to October 2010. He was active in various committees and commissions, including many years in the municipal council committee for finance and economic policy and most recently as chairman of the control committee.

Tschirf was chairman of the ÖAAB Vienna from 1996 to 2012 . From 2010 to 2014 he was chairman of the Christian Club House. Tschirf's political priorities were, according to his own statements, in the areas of legal and constitutional issues, in topics relating to Central and Eastern Europe as well as in creating and securing jobs in Vienna.

Private

Tschirf has been married since 1984. In 1982 he joined the K.Ö.HV Mercuria Wien in the ÖCV . Later he became a member of the KÖHV Sängerschaft Waltharia Wien , the K.Ö.HV Rugia Wien and the K.Ö.HV Amelungia Wien in the ÖCV and the KAV Capitolina Rome .
