Matthias Wuttig
Matthias Wuttig (born April 20, 1960 in Mettmann ) is a German physicist . He holds a chair for experimental physics ( physics of condensed matter ) and is director of the 1st Physics Institute A at RWTH Aachen University .
Life
Matthias Wuttig attended the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium in Velbert . He then studied physics at the University of Cologne . He wrote his dissertation on the relaxation and reconstruction of metallic surfaces at Forschungszentrum Jülich ; she was looked after by Harald Ibach . In 1988 he received his doctorate from RWTH Aachen University . In 1997 he took over the chair for physics of new materials.
Act
Wuttig held visiting professorships, for example B. 2005 at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou , 2007 at the Data Storage Institute (DSI) in Singapore , a year later at the Chinese Academy of Sciences / Shanghai and in 2010 in the USA at Stanford University and at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory .
He is the spokesman for the Collaborative Research Center 917 Nanoswitches: Resistively Switching Chalcogenides for Future Electronics - Structure, Kinetics, and Device Scalability .
Wuttig was Vice Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences from 2004 to 2006 ; this was followed by two years as dean of the faculty. Since 2009 he has been the spokesman for the RWTH Aachen Strategy Council and in this role has played a key role in the further development of the university's excellence initiative .
Research content
In his research he deals with materials that are suitable for future non-volatile phase change memories as well as with organic layers for opto-electronic applications such as light-emitting diodes ( OLED ). He is also active in the field of physical processes in sputter deposition .
