Matthias Zimmermann (born September 14, 1970 in Trostberg ), also called "Zimbo", is a former German soccer player .

Career

Zimmermann began playing football at TSV Trostberg in the town of the same name in the Traunstein district , before moving to the regional division Wacker Burghausen in 1992 and with him at the end of the season became champions of the season south . He then denied the following season in the Bavarian League and became the season 1994/95 from Bayern Munich bound for their second team.

After two seasons in the third-class Regionalliga Süd , he was committed to the 1996/97 season by the second division club SpVgg Unterhaching , where he experienced ten glorious seasons. He made his debut in paid football on August 7, 1996 (2nd match day) in a 1-1 draw in the home game against VfB Oldenburg ; his only goal in his first season he scored on August 23, 1996 (4th matchday) in a 2-1 win at home against FSV Zwickau with the goal to equalize in the 28th minute. In the following two seasons he was used in 28 point games and scored two and five goals respectively.

At the end of his third season with SpVgg Unterhaching, he finished the season with her as team captain in second place , which meant promotion to the Bundesliga . With all 34 point games and three goals, he contributed to relegation; he made his Bundesliga debut on August 14, 1999 (1st matchday) in the 3-0 defeat in the away game against Eintracht Frankfurt ; he scored his first Bundesliga goal on December 18, 1999 (17th matchday) in a 2-1 defeat in the away game against Bayer 04 Leverkusen with the opening goal in the 61st minute. At the end of the second Bundesliga season, relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga was certain. 2001/02 was relegated to the Regionalliga Süd and the following year the immediate return to the second division. For the 2005/06 season he returned to Bayern Munich II and ended his active football career after 21 matches in the Regionalliga Süd .

Zimmermann played in central midfield, where he was used both offensively and defensively. With his fast advances and his technical adeptness, he often caused danger in the opposing penalty area. He scored four goals in 66 Bundesliga games, nine goals in 143 second division games and 21 goals in 111 third division games. He also played 14 DFB Cup games for SpVgg Unterhaching and two for FC Bayern Munich II.

Zimmermann got a job in the merchandising department of FC Bayern Munich.

He is also a member of the FC Bayern Allstars team, for which he regularly plays.
