The place Mauer is a district and a cadastral municipality of the city of Amstetten and is located in the district of Amstetten in Lower Austria . It is located about six to eight kilometers southwest of the city center of Amstetten between the rivers Ybbs and Url . Until the end of 1971, Mauer was an independent municipality.

Incorporations

Mauer bei Amstetten has been part of the municipality merger in 1972 for township Amstetten and was previously an independent municipality, which also includes the hamlets Greinsfurth and Neufurth belonged. The places belonging to the former municipality of Mauer bei Amstetten had a total of 4,694 inhabitants in the 2001 census, of which Mauer (including Spiegelsberg, Waldheim, Winkling, Galtberg, Frauenau and Pilsing) had just over 2,000 inhabitants, Neufurth almost 1,600 inhabitants and Greinsfurth just under over 1,000 residents. Neufurth has been part of the Ulmerfeld-Hausmening district since it was incorporated into Amstetten .

Culture and sights

The state sanatorium and nursing home for the mentally ill was built from 1898–1902 as an Art Nouveau pavilion by Carlo von Boog and inaugurated in 1902 by Emperor Franz Joseph I. Today it houses a psychiatric hospital, the Amstetten-Mauer State Hospital .

Excavations

In Mauer there are important excavation sites where ancient Roman finds were made, Mauer was part of the Locus Felicis fort in Roman times . In 1937 the most important Roman treasure find in Austria was made here: the inventory of a sanctuary of the god Iupiter Dolichenus . The bronze statuettes, bronze votive standards, silver votives, bronze dishes and iron utensils were probably buried around 233 AD. Today they are in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna .

Sports

The Union Mauer sports club, founded in 1945, has a soccer section. In the 2009/10 season, the club finished second in the Regional League West . This meant the greatest success in the club's history. The already outdated sports field was replaced in July 2013 by a new, modern sports facility on the premises of the state hospital. From summer 2010 a state training center for young footballers will be installed in Mauer. In addition to football, there are in Mauer also tennis courts and equipment for curling .

Economy and Infrastructure

In the Amstetten-West operating area, which belongs to Greinsfurth, there is a dynamic infrastructure that is one of the most successful in Lower Austria.
